They are, of course, the focal point, but it is also about making sure every family member and friend who spent time, money, and effort to share in the celebration has a good time too. A big part of that is selecting the right wedding band.

As the primary source of entertainment after the ceremony and "I dos", it’s important to select the perfect band. With so many options, though, the decision is understandably overwhelming. Prospective newlyweds don’t have to worry about this detail, however, if they keep the following guidelines in mind. Follow these three guidelines to help find the perfect wedding band for your upcoming wedding.

1. Band Experience:

First and foremost, take into consideration band experience. Yes, there are a lot of bad wedding bands out there, but there are also just as many professionals. So check into the band’s wedding and event history. As in any profession, the best often rise to the top, and good bands tend to have a laundry list of gigs (many of which are jobs won on the basis of recommendations from satisfied customers). This isn’t to say all bands with little to no experience should be ruled out. Everyone has to start somewhere. But if a band has been at it for years, and nobody seems to be hiring, there might be a reason why.

2. Client Testimonials or Reviews:

Also be sure to factor in the previous client testimonials or reviews. Brides and grooms can rely on word of mouth to ascertain the quality of a band, but they can also turn to the internet for a more thorough review. There are many sites that offer wedding planning tools from, which has a comprehensive set of vendor selections and reviews, to, which focuses more exclusively on wedding band, DJ, and other musical performer reviews. These sites, and others like them, can be invaluable when it comes to selecting the right wedding band. By offering reviews from real customers, it becomes much easier to gauge the actual quality of any given band.

3. Budget for the Wedding's Entertainment

Another important thing to keep in mind is, of course, budget. There are different schools of thought about how much money should be spent on a wedding, so there are no hard and fast rules for how much a wedding band should cost. The important thing is that every couple gets the best value out of the performers. However, the adage that you get what you pay for holds true for most things, and that applies even to wedding bands. If a band’s rate seems too good to be true, it warrants some thought before booking them. Again, this isn’t means for ruling them out. Just be sure to thoroughly check references and, if applicable, wedding band review sites (as mentioned above) to make sure everything on the music end will be tasteful, entertaining, and fun.

Depending on budget, every couple will also have to decide on the size of the desired band. This can range from a single DJ to a full band, and price generally goes up accordingly. Outside of budget, couples also need to decide on band size to ensure the music is appropriate to the affair. A single performer, for example, probably won’t suffice for a wedding with hundreds of guests.

While finding the right band can feel like an impossible task, keep experience, reviews, budget, and size in mind, and the choices will narrow to the perfect band!
